Mac had written a little bit about the history of Oswestry Paragon see records and history above

Just a few words about Mac's life  this tribute to Mac was taken from the SCCA Newsletter

Mac Tudor

It is with great regret that we have to report the passing of  Mac Tudor of Oswestry Paragon CC suffering from a heart attack. Mac had been out on a bike ride that day crossing paths with several fellow cyclists, stopping to exchange a few words and then moving on. On his ride that day, Mac completed 37 miles but sadly passed away close to home.

Mac was born in July 1936 in Treflach. After attending school in Nantmawr he moved on to Oswestry Boys High. He then went to work for Halfords, and recalled delivering bikes by riding his bike and pushing another one alongside.

In 1952 Mac, along with sister Wendy and future brother-in-law Brian were founder members of Oswestry Paragon CC, competing in both road races and time trials. He once rode to St. Asaph via the Horseshoe Pass on a Saturday evening after finishing work, competed in a 100 mile time trial the next day and then rode home. It would be over 40 years before he took part and successfully completed another 100.

National Service took Mac into the RAF in 1953 where he undertook a motor vehicle maintenance course and later qualified as a mechanic. He would teach his best friend Tony James to drive and later they took up rallying – with various degrees of success! It was 1960 when a group of lads with a mixed range of interests including cycling, motorsports and hill walking started to meet up at the Oak Inn, making plans for the weekend’s activities. This motley crew included Richard Jones, Grahame Walker, George Johnson, Tony James, Harold Evans and Brian Jenks.

On leaving the RAF Mac went to Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham and attained an HND in Mechanical Engineering. This led to him spending the remainder of his working life in the motor industry. In 1971 He joined a French company called Abex were he made many good friends and developed a love of all things French.

Mac married Pat in 1968 and they went on to have two daughters, Helen and Lesley, and despite the pressures of a busy working life and plenty of travelling he still found time for his family and friends. Monday mornings would often see Mac heading for the airport to catch yet another flight to France. As young girls, Mac’s job seemed very glamorous to Helen and Lesley, but as they grew up learnt to appreciate the sacrifices he had made and just how hard he worked for his family.

When he retired in 1999 he found time to take up the hobbies he had missed out on during his working life, tending the garden with Pat and enjoying meals out with friends. He was determined to stay fit and would often enjoy long walks in the countryside, accompanied by his faithful spaniel Harri and often with Lesley as well. He also took up cycling again, with the family initially buying him mountain bike. After a year or so pottering around the urge to compete returned, and with Tony James lending him a Rourke he returned to time trialling firstly on the Paragon and Mids Club 10’s and then moving onto open events. After a break of nearly 40 years he found there were still many familiar faces from the old days. He encouraged Helen to join him in the sport and they spent many hours chasing their respective veteran standards. He was particularly pleased when in the 2011 SCCA 100 mile time trial Helen completed the course in under five hours and Mac in under six. Mac also raised money for Hope House through his involvement with Oswestry Paragon, including a sponsored ride between the two hospices in Oswestry and Conwy and the club reliability run.

In February this year when Pat was diagnosed with cancer Mac was heartbroken but was devoted to her care. When Pat was in hospital Mac often visited her twice daily – coming back home to let the dog out before getting straight back in the car and heading for the hospital again. In the short period following Pat’s death Mac was looking positively to the future, planning a sailing trip around Scotland with his good friend Arnold and a trip to Paris with Lesley and her partner Chris. This year he had set himself the target of riding the West Cheshire 12, mainly because he thought that was where he was most likely to achieve his standard unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Our condolences go out to Helen and Lesley at this difficult time.
